Longbourn by Jo Baker
"Pride and Prejudice" told from the servants' perspective.
The Bennets and Mr. Darcy take a backseat in this look at the Longbourn estate as seen through the eyes of minor characters from Austenís Pride and Prejudice. The real drama unfolds downstairs where a young housemaid falls for the newly hired footman. Others such as Mr. Collins, Mr. Wickham, and cook/head of servants Mrs. Hill take center stage in this evocative look at the lives of the lower classes in 19th century England.
